Wedding Rings : A Short Guide For Buyers

There are lots of different styles of wedding rings available, both for men and for women. And, of course some people design their own wedding rings. Some families have a tradition of passing either wedding or engagement rings or the stones down through the family. These stones can be reset or the rings can be worn as is as a sentimental gesture.

In general, a man’s ring is usually wider than a woman’s band although some women’s wedding bands are quite wide. A lot of couples choose bands that either match or are similar. Both bands are usually made of gold (white or gold), platinum, stainless steel or even titanium or tungsten. Those last two are very hard metals and some couples consider them to be a symbol of the strength of their love. The most popular metal for wedding bands is yellow gold. A wedding band is usually made of the same metal as the bride’s engagement ring. It should be kept in mind, that whatever ring is chosen, it is meant to be worn for the rest of the bride and groom’s lives.

Some couples prefer wedding bands that are patterned – braided, carved or engraved. An embossed design or a Celtic design is a possibility. Some people choose claddagh rings – the Irish symbol of love that is a heart held by two hands with a crown on the top. It symbolizes love, loyalty and friendship. Many couples have a short saying carved inside a wedding band or perhaps their initials and their wedding date.

Both women’s and men’s wedding rings are available that have precious stones embedded in them. Some women choose to wear a wide wedding band with a diamond or other stone in it rather than the traditional wedding set. Some also like bands that have diamonds or other precious stones set all around them. This is a symbol of the eternity of love. Some men like to have a precious stone in their wedding ring as well. The stone could be a small diamond or other stones, or combination of stones.

Try not to get too caught up in trying to find and afford the ‘perfect’ wedding ring. Why? Because what is perfect for one person may be distasteful for someone else. It all comes down to personal preference. Shop around and do not overspend – that is the best advice!
