If you need to be in a wedding, you already know that you need to buy a dress, and you probably have to purchase one that the bride picks out for you. You may also have to buy brand-new bridesmaid footwear, & this is where you should ask for some flexibility.
Though many brides will want you to have matching footwear, they may be a little more flexible with the type that you can get. There are certain times when you should shy away from high heels, and you need to think about the other women in the ceremony as well.
You might not have a problem with standing up for long periods of time in heels, but some of the other girls may not be used to them. It is imperative to know what everyone is comfortable with when buying bridesmaid shoes.
This is even more important if you’re going to be in a catholic wedding, which would necessitate christian wedding songs, or another kind that can have an extremely long ceremony. Even those who are accustomed to standing around or wearing high heels might find the ceremony to be too much if they have the wrong bridesmaid footwear.
When I had my wedding day, I let one of my women choose the brides-maid shoes. Of course my wedding was a christian wedding with christian wedding songs, so I wanted every-thing to be modest & pure. She was the one girl that did not wear heels very often, so I thought she’d select the best ones. As it turned out, she chose something that had more of a heel than I thought she would choose.
All of my women said the shoes were not too bad, but I did have a short ceremony. 2 christian wedding songs, unity candle, vows, and recessional. They took their brides-maid shoes off shortly after the reception began, so they didn’t have too many difficulties. Had I insisted they keep them on though, they might have had painful feet.
If you really wish to have a particular form of bridesmaid footwear for your wedding, make certain you take pity on your girls & allow them some relief. Some brides get their ladies slippers that they can wear at the reception. There are a few truly fantastic ones out there, & many of them come in colors that will match your wedding colors and your girl’s gowns.
They can slip them on for dancing, & put their brides-maid shoes back on for photos. You might find that the footwear you choose won’t bother some of your women, but you should always check with everybody. It looks like an unimportant detail when you are planning your wedding, but if your ladies are uncomfortable, they are not going to have a good time, & in the end that’s what will matter most.
