Don’t Let The Honeymoon Die

There is an old saying that there comes a point in every marriage when you realize that the honeymoon is over. A couple can lose the romance and attentiveness that characterized the engagement around this time as they settle into a routine. The great news is that the wonderful newlywed glow does not have to end the minute you unpack from your vacation and get back to everyday life. These tips for newlyweds will help to keep the romantic honeymoon feeling alive.
Take Care Of Yourself. For their weddings, many couples work hard to be in the best shape they can. You see brides working out like crazy, getting facials and manicures, and doing whatever it takes to look amazing when they walk down the aisle in their bridal gown and pearl necklace. But no one can keep up the superhuman effort forever. You still have plenty of reasons to look nice, even after the wedding day. Hopefully your spouse loves you for who you are on the inside more than for your exterior appearance, but being married does not have to mean hanging around in sweatpants all day. This definitely goes for husbands too, by the way!
Have Date Night. Just as you made time for each other when dating, find the time for special nights once you become married. Treat yourself to a regular weekly date night, whether it is dinner in a great restaurant, a trip to the movies, or just meeting for a drink after work each Friday night. Instead of going out, you can always have date night at home. Dressing up for the date can make it feel special, so the wife can wear a nice dress and pearl necklace, and the husband can wear a suit. Light some candles, open a bottle of your favorite wine, and enjoy romantic quiet time with your spouse.
Don’t Take Each Other for Granted. A terrible trap for a married couple to fall into is to take each other for granted. It’s important to show apprecation for the little things your spouse does. Take the time to say thanks if your wife picks up your dry cleaning on the way home from work, even if she does it every week. Or surprise your wife with a new pearl necklace to celebrate her new promotion, or even just because. The person who does not normally make dinner can do it every so often as a treat for the other. And never, ever leave your dirty socks laying around for your spouse to pick up!
Work Out Your Disagreements. If you ask a couple who has been happily married for decades what their secret is, you may well hear “Never go to bed angry”. Not every major disagreement can be resolved in a timely fashion, but when things are allowed to fester, they snowball. Another tip is to fight fair. Don’t make disagreements spiteful; do not use the current fight to bring up issues from the past. If a couple can promise to do these things, there will be very few disagreements that cannot be worked out.
As you can see, settling into married life is not the end of romance. With these few easy tips, newlyweds can continue the honeymoon for a long time.
